About
Luke Thomas has been playing music since age five. He began playing guitar at age ten, and was teaching before he graduated from high school. He graduated with a BA in Applied Music and Jazz Studies from University of Wisconsin - Green Bay in 2004. His command of many different styles from jazz to progressive metal, afro-beat to funk and reggae, to pop and classical makes him one of the most sought-after session and working guitarists in Southern California. As an instructor, he has taught full-time since 2003, and has worked at LA College of Music (formerly LAMA), School of Rock, and currently at the Music Factory in Costa Mesa. He also maintains his own private studio with dozens of students.
After graduating from college with a degree in jazz studies, Luke has established himself as a composer, collaborator, sideman, songwriter, and band leader. He has served as guitarist and backup vocalist as a member of SuperNaked, Empire of One, and eEnik. He has also worked repeatedly as a featured guest with the Midwest-based Jazz Orgy, performed and recorded with San Francisco-based world music and reggae artist Renee Asteria, and jazz/improvisation groups The Angry Philosophers and The Jazz Martyrs. He has also performed as a guitarist for live theater performances and musicals, and has worked with Joe Church (The Lion King).
As a in-demand musician in LA, he has had the honor of working as Musical Director of the Witzenders (houseband for legendary LA West-side club Witzend), and has worked with artists as diverse as famous session bassist Abe Laboriel Sr., British singer-songwriter James Carrington, Twiggie Ramirez (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails), LA artist Bianca Caruso (Zabruso/Freddie and Francine), Melissa Villa-Senor (Saturday Night Live), The Voice alumni Jordis Unga and Justin Hopkins, Carmen Perez, and American Idol finalist Justin Carter. He has worked as the house band guitarist for Music Skool in Hermosa Beach and had a residency as a bandleader at Universal City Walk, in addition to working as a musical director and sideman for dozens of bands.
“Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST.”
